Welcome aboard the
Sachem,
Islamorada's premier sportfishing charterboat. Specializing in offshore, light
tackle and fly fishing, Captain Bill Bassett and his
crew
have set 9 world records. Located at Bud and Mary's Marina in Islamorada, The
Sachem can take you reef fishing for snapper, grouper and mackerel, or you can
venture further offshore to catch marlin, sailfish, dolphin (mahi-mahi) and
tuna. In May, June, and July, the Sachem
specializes in fly fishing for dolphin.
Captain Bill Bassett was born in
Islamorada, and has fished here his entire life. He has been Captain of the
Sachem for the past ten years. He is married and has two children and resides in
Islamorada. In addition to
Captain Bassett, the mate of the Sachem,
Billy Chapman is also a licensed captain, and has fished in Islamorada for 7 years. Depending
on the time
of the year, Captain Bill Bassett can customize your fishing trip in the Keys.
Islamorada is known as the "Sportfishing Capital of the World" and whether it is
bottom fish you are after for the table, or fishing for the thrill of catching
and releasing billfish, Captain Bill can tailor the trip to your liking
The Sachem's richly appointed interior.
The Sachem is a custom 46' Merritt sport fishing boat. She was designed and constructed with one purpose - to raise fish, and she does! Equipped with twin diesel engines, the Sachem will have you fishing only minutes from the dock, and catching fish before you know it. Her interior is luxurious and air conditioned. There is a full galley area for your use during your trip.
The Sachem will welcome you and your family. The crew routinely has children aboard and has had children as young as eight years old hook and catch billfish. Your children will want to return again and again to spend time on the water with Captain Bassett. He encourages your children to actively participate in the fishing day by teaching them to hook and catch their own fish. They even offer fly fishing instruction for all ages.
In addition to fishing in Islamorada, the Sachem travels to Puerto Aventuras, Mexico in the spring to catch great numbers of sailfish, white and blue marlin.
